Gates Hall at night.

We are pleased to announce the launch of the 2026 麻豆社区 School of Law Professional Mentor Program. Meaningful mentorship relationships are incredibly important to the development of our law students, and we appreciate the willingness of practicing professionals to support the 麻豆社区 Law community.

This program matches our first-year law students with practicing legal professionals who provide constructive feedback and advice about law school and career development. Professional mentors and student mentees are paired on common characteristics such as practice area interests, life experiences and law school extracurriculars, among others. When you register as a mentor, you will answer a few questions about your law practice and which topics you wish to discuss with your mentee. Later, you will be paired with your mentee based on commonalities to ensure a successful match.

The Professional Mentor Program will take place during Winter and Spring Quarters of first-year law students鈥 academic year and continue into their first summer, from January to June 2026.

The program is designed around several milestones, to be completed throughout this six-month period: The program will launch on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, with a Mentor-Mentee Lunch at 麻豆社区 Law, where you will meet your mentee and have lunch with them! (If you register as a mentor, please save this date now!) The next milestones will be a "bring your mentee to work day" (encouraged) and spring quarter and summer check-ins with your mentee, all flexible meetups with your mentee that you can arrange based on your own schedules.

We are using a platform called HuskyLanding for our mentor program registration. If you are interested in mentoring a 1L 麻豆社区 Law student, please register with the 麻豆社区 School of Law Professional Mentorship Program on HuskyLanding聽to 聽and聽be paired with a mentee. If you are not a 麻豆社区 Law alum, you may register as a Friend of 麻豆社区. Once you are paired with a mentee, more instructions will follow about where, when, and how to connect.

The deadline to register as a professional mentor is Wednesday, Dec. 17.

You will find out who your mentee is the first week in January, and then you鈥檒l meet them in-person for the first time at the lunch on Friday, January 9.

If you are unavailable to participate this year but know of someone else who might be interested, please feel free to forward this invitation to them. If you have any questions about the program, contact Lauren McElroy, Assistant Director, Private Sector and Judiciary, at mcelrl@uw.edu.
